  • Webinar "Introduction to the Extended Producer Responsibility" - English session

    The platform Betriber&Emwelt is organizing, in collaboration with the Environment Agency (AEV), a webinar concerning the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) scheme.

In accordance with the European directive 2008/99/EC and the amended law of 21 March 2012, relating to waste management, the producer of products may be subject to the extended producer responsibility scheme. The producer of products is, depending on the case, the manufacturer, distributor, or importer of the product – i.e., potentially many stakeholders of the Luxembourgish economy. This scheme establishes the obligation for the producer of products to assume financial and/or organizational responsibility for the prevention, reuse, preparation for reutilization and management of the waste resulting from the products they have placed on the market and also includes aspects related to information, awareness, and product design.

At this stage, 6 EPR systems are in place in Luxembourg:

  • portable, LTM, SLI, industrial and electric vehicle batteries and waste from portable, LTM, SLI, industrial and electric vehicle batteries
  • household/reusable packaging and household packaging waste;
  • non-household/reusable packaging and non-household packaging waste;
  • household electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) and household EEE waste;
  • non-household electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) and non-household EEE waste;
  • tobacco products with filters and waste from tobacco products with filters.

The objectives of this webinar are to:

  • explain the EPR scheme to you;
  • clarify who the producer of products is;
  • inform you about the different EPR systems in Luxembourg;
  • present the general obligations of the producer of products.
