The Betriber&Emwelt platform, on behalf of the coordinators of the IMMEC project (Integrated Modelling of Material efficiency and Eenvironmental impacts of building materials Cycles) is pleased to invite you to its “Final Stakeholder workshop” on the 23rd of October 2025 from 14:00 to 17:00.
The use of plastic products in buildings and infrastructure (B&I) has been rising steadily. Meeting such a growing demand while targeting climate neutrality requires ambitious circularity efforts, which, in turn, may be hampered by the regulation of so-called “legacy contaminants”, i.e. substances that are present in the existing stock but are now regulated. In project “IMMEC”, we explore the circularity potential of Germany’s flows and stocks of plastic products in B&I.
Several research questions arise: what volume of end-of-life flows can be expected by 2050, 2070, 2100? Where can these flows be realistically directed, depending on restriction, consumption, or recycling capacity scenarios? What does that entail at the policy level? Will the plastics waste treatment sector be a burden or a sink regarding climate emissions under such scenarios? Can stakeholders (building sector, recyclers, …) benefit from screening potential contaminants in deconstruction materials?
Through project IMMEC (Integrated Modelling of Material efficiency and Environmental impacts of building materials Cycles), we at University of Kassel and LIST have investigated these questions for the past three years. This workshop aims at presenting the project results and fostering the discussion with stakeholders.
Are you a member of the construction industry and would like to register for this workshop? Please contact us at the following address to process your registration: betriber-emwelt@list.lu
This event will be held in English and places are limited.
